Barley / Hordeum Vulgare – Barley helps heal the stomach and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is high in calcium, iron, vitamins C & B12, contains all the essential amino acids, flavonoids and enzymes with other minerals. (1) An immune system protector. (6)Barley is used for convalescents and in the treatment of diarrhea, gastritis and inflammatory bowel conditions. (5)
Beet Root / Beta Vulgaris – Helps open obstructions of the spleen and liver. (2) In animal tests, the drug is effective against depositing fat in the liver. Betaine (a compound in Beet Root) is a methyl group donor in the transmethylation process in the liver. Beet is used as a supportive therapy in diseases of the liver and fatty liver. (5) Beetroot juice assists the liver to break-down stored fats and is of value for cellulite and other obese conditions. (6)
Chelidonium / Celandine / Chelidonium Majus – Helps cleanse the blood and tone the intestines. (2) Liver and gall bladder complaints. Mild analgesic effects. (5) Action: cholagogue, bitter, antispsmodic, antifungal. Analgesic, diuretic, laxative, vesicant, antibacterial, antimycotic. Dandelion / Taraxacum Officinale – Contains many B vitamins, vitamins A & C, calcium, other minerals and some fatty acids, as well as sulfur. It cleanses the bloodstream and liver and stimulates bile production. It also improves the function of the stomach, spleen, pancreas and kidneys. Some diuretic effect. It decreases cholesterol and uric acid. (1,3) Dandelion is indicated in dyspeptic complaints, infections of the urinary tract, kidney and bladder stones, liver and gallbladder complaints, loss of appetitie. Dandelion is used for disturbances in bile flow, stimulation of diuresis, loss of appetite, and dyspepsia. (5) Used to treat liver disorders, inflammation of the gall bladder, to counter tendency to form gallstones, mild jaundice, to clear a yellowish complexion and brighten the eyes; to stimulate flow of bile. Indigestion, lack of appetitie, muscular rheumatism, hypoglycemia. (6)
Milk Thistle / Silybum Marianum - Stimulates new liver cell production and prevents leukotriene formation. Also protects the kidneys. (1) It can clear obstructions and stimulate the liver to detoxify toxins.(4) Preparations of milk thistle herb are used as a tonic, as a stimulant, for functional disorders of the liver and gallbladder as well as for jaundice, gallbladder colic, and diseases of the spleen. Used for dyspeptic complaints, toxic liver damage, supportive treatment in chronic inflammatory liver disease and hepatic cirrhosis. (5)
